Summer Nights

Who say's you can't brighten the upcoming winter nights with a splash of colour? I think a lot of people reserve the darker colours in their wardrobe for the darker time of year, but I like colour so why not wear it? The bright blue and coral are two colours I just love to mix because I think they contrast so well. Blue is my 'comfort colour' so I often resort to wearing it quite frequently as I think it compliments my skin tone rather than clashes with it. Although the lighter and brighter colours are often associated with summer, the combination of colour is a favourite of mine so I couldn't resist. I chose black faux leather accessories as I wanted all the focus to be on my clothing. My bag is a perfect little purse to hold all my essentials; and also comes with a longer shoulder strap. My wedges are very basic is style but are so comfortable to wear and don't take away from my dress.

Berry Blend

27 November 2014

No matter what the catwalk trends are for the season, the berry or maroon colour always returns for autumn. It's almost become a tradition as this colour, along with earthy tones sweep the high street stores and online. I personally love this colour, as I don't think it clashes with my skin tone which can sometimes happen. I decided to incorporate this colour into my outfit though my cardigan and beanie; although I do have a dress to match this exact tone, that would be going over the top. This colour blends really well with black and white, or earth-like tones like brown, moss green and oranges to match the colours associated with this season. If you have been following my blog for a while, you'll know that I'm closed to obsessed with jersey skater dresses because they're so comfortable and I don't often have to worry about the length because I can have them made to fit. Today's dress has a 'broken' stripe effect which I think livens up my outfit. To finish the look, I'm carrying a faux leather shoulder bag and lace-up hi-tops.

Texture Tangle

26 November 2014

When you mix different textures together, it makes an outfit seem more diverse. They don't have to be extreme, like fur against silk, but even the subtle efforts don't go unnoticed. Although my cotton check shirt bring a lot of colour to today's look, I thought I would experiment with surrounding the shirt with denim, leather and even chiffon to complete today's outfit. Underneath the button-up I'm wearing a chiffon vest-top the peeps out at the bottom and adds a little length without taking away from the shirt. My favourite super skinny denim jeans are from Next and incredibly comfortable, matching my navy pumps by Nike. My shoes, jacket and bag are all faux leather which is an ideal fabric for this time of year due to it's warmth and durability. A leather jacket is a must-have, despite the colour or style. Overall, I managed to keep all the main focus on the brighter colours of my check or flannel shirt but still wear multiple textures and layers to keep warm.

Pink Lemonade

Today's jumper is one that I have had for a very long time, but just cannot let go. When I first bought the jumper I never wore it. I thought it clashed with my skin tone rather than complimented it and I didn't think the style was that flattering on my body shape. Immediately, it went to the back of my wardrobe and I didn't see it for a while. However, as autumn and winter rolls in, and I live in the north, I'm wearing thicker clothes nearly every day and came across this abandoned sweater from Next. I'm not totally sure what I was thinking a few years ago, but my mind has definitely changed. The cotton is very thick but not too heavy which makes this jumper great for today as the weather isn't too chilly. I also love the woven detail that doesn't stick to a set pattern which gives the outfit some texture. The white paired with pink makes the overall jumper seem lighter and brightens up my look. This top is the statement piece for my outfit so I chose my favourite charcoal jeans and dark accessories so they don't take away from the lovely colour.

Style Crush: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

23 November 2014

RHW is no stranger to the spotlight. Not only did she make her catwalk debut alongside Naomi Campbell, she also has a successful lingerie collection with Marks & Spencer named Rosie for Autograph and managed to land a roll in the third Transformers film - one of my favourites. However, that's not what I admire most about Rosie, the one thing I always look to Rosie for is her style. Whether it's on the red carpet or her favourite coffee run attire, Rosie's style is always at it's best. She's often featured in my collection of images for the 'Celebrity Style' board on my Pinterest page. Rosie's unique look compliments her effortless style as she mixes luxurious designer garments with the very best of the high street. As a model, Rosie knows how to dress to suit her body shape and skin tone which always comes to an advantage. She favours Givenchy for their luxury leather totes and has a flawless casual wardrobe which makes every day seem like a red carpet moment!

Handbags And Gladrags

22 November 2014

As I young girl I used to be obsessed with handbags. It's all I was know for during my first few years of secondary school. During one year, I had a different school bag ever week and the collection continued to grow. Style-wise, this wasn't my brightest period, my idea of classy or glamour was anything with a metallic tint or a well-known brand stamped on the side. I even remember carrying a bag made by Apple Bottom because the song Low by Flo Rida featuring T-Pain was incredibly popular at the time. 2007-2009 are years I can only look back on to laugh, cringe-worthy is an understatement. However, since that time, I have always adored a good handbag no matter what the size. I recently bought this Fiorelli tote from TK Maxx, where Fiorelli bags are very popular. This is my first Fiorelli bag, and so far I can't stop carrying it. The faux leather is very high quality which gives the bag really good structure and makes it easier to carry and keep organised. The splash of blue, which is in the same place on both sides adds colour to my winter wardrobe which seems to consist of a lot of greys and blacks. This is definitely my favourite purchase of the month!

Skirt Loving

19 November 2014

Eldwick, Bingley, Bingley, West Yorkshire BD16, UK
Dresses are one of my favourite clothing pieces to wear. Not only are they very easy to style, but they're comfortable for me to wear and I don't have to worry about the length too often, which is a completely different story for trousers. On the other hand, I have never been fond of skirts. Dresses and skirts are often clumped together in one category, but I always prefer to wear dresses and find skirts occasionally uncomfortable; and when I was younger, I found it difficult to find items to pair with a skirt. Today, I have grown to love skirts almost as much as I like to wear dresses. My skirt today is a recent favourite, it's of course made of jersey, a dress fabric I adore. The pattern on the skirt is very basic, but from afar looks complex which makes the outfit appear more exciting. I managed to stick with my comfort colour, blue, and find a coat to match. Which I'm wearing over a basic navy tank top that's elasticated so it's comfortable under my skirt. I never used to even consider wearing skirts, but today I'm loving it.
PS: You may have noticed my blog has a new name and domain, I think Anika May has a nice ring to it, what do you think?
