Grey Days

14 December 2016

Lister Park, UK
Hope you’re having a great week! There’s something about a crisp winter day that is just exhilarating to walk in. Despite the cold, I’ve been spending a lot more time this winter, and I’m loving it. Not only do I now workout in the colder temperature (post coming soon!), but I’ve learned to appreciate the environment around me.
As much as I do adore being outside, I can’t escape the cold. This super comfy tailored coat has been in my closet for absolutely ages, and I finally decided to dust it off and bring it back. I wore it in an outfit post back in 2014 – but we don’t need to revisit that time. Back then, I loved the oversized look and I still do now. It’s a little too big for me, so I’ve officially announced this coat as oversized chic. The great thing about grey is that it’s so easy to dress with colour colours, especially lighter ones.

I feel like lighter jeans aren’t as popular now, but I still love them. I picked up this comfy pair from Next way back when, as still love them today. Likewise, this poppy-print camisole top is from the amazing TK Maxx, and is a wardrobe favourite. I think I’m definitely going to explore wearing more bright patterns in 2017 because I’m suddenly fallen for them!

Today I’m carrying my favourite bag by Boutique of Molly: the Tokyo Bag. The longer strap is great for stylish walks around the bag, and not too clunky, so I can carry all my essentials and still be hands-free!

Skirt Loving

Dresses are one of my favourite clothing pieces to wear. Not only are they very easy to style, but they're comfortable for me to wear and I don't have to worry about the length too often, which is a completely different story for trousers. On the other hand, I have never been fond of skirts. Dresses and skirts are often clumped together in one category, but I always prefer to wear dresses and find skirts occasionally uncomfortable; and when I was younger, I found it difficult to find items to pair with a skirt. Today, I have grown to love skirts almost as much as I like to wear dresses. My skirt today is a recent favourite, it's of course made of jersey, a dress fabric I adore. The pattern on the skirt is very basic, but from afar looks complex which makes the outfit appear more exciting. I managed to stick with my comfort colour, blue, and find a coat to match. Which I'm wearing over a basic navy tank top that's elasticated so it's comfortable under my skirt. I never used to even consider wearing skirts, but today I'm loving it.
PS: You may have noticed my blog has a new name and domain, I think Anika May has a nice ring to it, what do you think?

Darling Dogtooth

13 November 2014

Winter is my favourite time of year, mainly because I own more coats that I do shorts. Dogstooth, which is also know as houndstooth; or in this case puppytooth as the pattern is small scale, is one of my favourite patterns to play around with. The broken check print comes in a wide variety of colours and combinations and is suitable all year round. This coat, which is made of wool and cotton is ideal for this time of year it's warm and cosy, but can also be worn for multiple occasions. Dogstooth in general is often worn for more formal events and is extremely common in workwear. However, the duotone pattern is appearing in high street stores in the form of trousers, coats and even hats. The print is becoming more casual and I chose this fabric from a local textiles store, hope to have this oversized winter coat made for me. The larger sizes makes the coat much easier to layer underneath and the darker pattern; which is most often found in monochrome, pairs well with multiple colours including the navy denim.

Tartan & Blue

7 November 2014

The dull weather really dampens my mood. As much as I love autumn and winter, it would be great to have a rainy day or a sunny day, rather than a weird fog/mist/partially cloudy day. It's also the time of year where we are freezing in the morning but overheating by 3pm. I no longer attend school so I don't have the awkward situation of trying to pick an outfit that suits this unpredictable season. One this I couldn't let go of during the summer was my blue coat. Summer in the North isn't that long - maybe about 3 days and then just rain. But I found this coat to suit most outfits and it's continued to be reliable through to this time of year. At first glance, I wouldn't find a lot of items in my wardrobe to pair well with the coat but luckily it just seems to work. My jumper, which was bought for £4.00 from Topshop in the sale naturally appears during this season. Note: I'm so very proud I found such an amazing item at that price in a store like Topshop. Tartan, check and flannel are all autumnal trends that constantly pop up on the high street and seem to be common with celebrities too.
Cropped jumpers are great for me as I have a figure that's most similar to hourglass. Having long legs does hide this a little bit, but it's there. Cropped tops paired with high-waisted bottoms are a great combination as they highlight the best bits of the body shape and disguise all the bits we don't want to show.

Berry Farmer

Coat season is in full swing and I'm absolutely loving it. The great thing about coats is that you can wear them when they're too small and too big - if you style them right. The same method works with jumpers too. The coat I'm wearing today was 'thrifted' while I was window shopping and it's slowly but surely growing on me. At first, I was reluctant to try it on as it's a larger size and doesn't exactly ooze glamour but experiment with my style is a goal of mine. It turns out, this coat is much greater than I could imagine. Although it reminds me a lot of a jacket quite a lot of farmers wear in Yorkshire, I have found it to be really useful as we get closer to winter. I think, although it's very simple it has a vintage-like vibe to it. Grandad fashion is back, I guess. Berry-coloured clothing is naturally more popular in the back end of the year so I was happy to see a nice maroon-like lining inside the coat, and paired with with a lace jumper and cotton beanie.
