Jersey Dressing

19 September 2014

I have always been the girl who wears dresses, from day one - I've just loved them. In primary school I would wear dresses throughout the winter even though it's much more logical to wear trousers when you live in the North of England. I think my love from dresses stems from me usually being able to find trousers that are long enough to fit me, as I have very long legs; usually the long-length trousers available in stores are too short. Dresses on the other hand, are very different. With most, there's no height and limb length restriction. I can wear lots of dresses without worrying about them looking strange because they don't fit right. This doesn't apply to maxi dresses and skirts but that's a different story altogether. As I grew up, I began to favourite the fit-n-flare or skater style of dress because I found it most flattering for my body shape and they're comfortable for me to wear. I'm lucky to have a fashion designer for a mother, so a lot of dresses can be made specifically for me and they're one of a kind, but if there wasn't much time on our hands, I always resorted to dresses made out of jersey, one of my favourite fabrics. Jersey is a really soft knit fabric with stretch in and in many cases can be quite lighweight. This dress I'm wearing today is from Topshop, and although it's a drop-waist dress which I wouldn't usually go for, the fabric is just so comfortable and flexible I just couldn't resist. Most dresses today are made out of jersey for it's elasticity and durability, but I like that it comes in so many different colours and styles because it's a knit fabric, and I head straight to the jersey section every time we visit a fabric store.

Charcoal Flamingos

3 September 2014

Today's look is the ultimate casual get up. I think just about every school is back this week, and this is an outfit that I wore quite often in sixth form, especially during this time of the year because it was cloudy but still a little warm. I really like my flamingo top from Primark because it's so 'busy' and easily becomes the statement piece for the whole outfit. I've found that because it has quite an eye catching pattern, but uses limited colours, it's really easy to style with any sort of bottoms. Today's I'm wearing my favourite charcoal jeans that are almost like jeggings they're so comfy. But I think this t-shirt can be paired with skirts, shorts or jeans because of it's length too. It's not short enough to be a cropped top, but it's quite short so it can be paired with any sort of high-waisted piece. I've noticed this top has been quite popular from Primark, even seeing a few bloggers in it myself. To finish off this back-to-school style, I'm wearing classic hi-top All Stars which I think are the perfect shoe for school, and my oversized leather bag that's big enough to fit about anything in.

maybe the best has yet to come

maybe the best has yet to come

I've noticed it's been a really long time since I've done a wishlist. I usually do these through Polyvore because it's like a portal to every item I've ever wanted - I absolutely love it. I think this set has a little bit of an 'artsy' vibe, it's definitely something I can see an Art or creative student wearing because it's so cool and casual. The Monki Asta singlet is something that's been in my 'liked' list on Polyvore for a while. The back of the top is what makes it unique and stand out because I think it's quite daring, but perfect for the last few weeks of summer left. Similarly, the boyfriend jeans from H&M are ideal for August. The weather during this time can really go either way, and a little breeze makes all the difference so I've added these jeans to this wishlist because they're really cool to wear in the sun, and warm enough when the clouds take over. I've wanted some All Star Low Converse for a while now so they had to be included in today's post. Although I haven't yet decided on the colour, I like the maroon pair. No shoe is more iconic than the Chuck Taylor All star and they're always a summer essential. I've noticed a lot of bloggers and YouTubers using the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Camera as well as seeing them all over Instagram. I live in quite a scenic area of Yorkshire, and this camera would be absolutely perfect for capturing some amazing landscapes throughout the year. I do actually have a Polaroid camera I found in the 'junk box' which is really useful but incredibly heavy! The Eastsport mesh backpack is an item I saw in another set on Polyvore and was immediately drawn to. The mesh fabric used for the body of the bag is nothing I've ever seen before and it's such a great price! It's very simple like the ASOS rings but the few features differ it from the rest to make a street style look.

Humongous Handbags

19 August 2014

I have recently really fallen for oversized bags. Oversized anything is what I will usually go for, other than jeans. I love huge jumpers and long tops as well as large statement accessories and jewellery. Today I'm carrying quite a large bag that I bought from TK Maxx. There are many things I love about TK Maxx, finding designer clothing for reasonable prices is always exciting, but I really like the fact that you often find one off pieces in there. Sometimes they're just in that one store, but it's rare I'll find a lot of items twice in a fortnight. My large bag was bought for my last year of school, which I finally finished in June, and was sitting there, all alone on a rack. I couldn't resist, I had to buy it because it's black and leather - perfect for school. My huge bag also has divided sections and plenty of pockets inside which is always a bonus for me. I like simple colours for handbags as they're not often a statement piece in my outfits. I really like the ribbed effect down the middle of the bag as well as the gigantic studs near the handles. Oversized bags have become essential for me as I now work full time and I have to carry a lot of folders along with my typical handbag essentials. On the other hand, I've noticed really large bags are great for shopping days because I can just throw things in rather than struggling to carry everything. I often find myself trying to look for a place to put a tiny carrier bag from Claire's somewhere and I've even lost them because I have no where to put them! I've found humongous handbags to be a new favourite of mine, what do you think?

Monochrome Madness

23 July 2014

Gilstead, Bingley, West Yorkshire BD16, UK

Sometimes the hardest part about picking an all black outfit is finding all black pieces that are actually the same shade of black. If you wear all black outfits a lot, like me, then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Today I went with a monochrome outfit, because I love this slightly oversized black and white shirt that I bought in Next's recent sale. I chose it to try to break out of my all black habit, but I also like how the white is incorporated in the shirt, it's not just black with white buttons or collars. I personally think the monochrome look is timeless, effortless and faultless. You can never go wrong with it because it's two colours that always correspond well with each other. My leggings are a little shiny, but I chose them over plain black leggings because they can look green-ish or even brown on camera. These leggings are also a bit stretchier than normal high street leggings so they're much more comfortable. My all black Converse are my favourite pair because I can literally wear them with  anything. I first saw them on Tumblr, and knew I had to buy them immediately because they will never clash with any of my clothes. They can also become a really simple statement piece if I contrast them with a super colourful outfit.
