Handbags And Gladrags

As I young girl I used to be obsessed with handbags. It's all I was know for during my first few years of secondary school. During one year, I had a different school bag ever week and the collection continued to grow. Style-wise, this wasn't my brightest period, my idea of classy or glamour was anything with a metallic tint or a well-known brand stamped on the side. I even remember carrying a bag made by Apple Bottom because the song Low by Flo Rida featuring T-Pain was incredibly popular at the time. 2007-2009 are years I can only look back on to laugh, cringe-worthy is an understatement. However, since that time, I have always adored a good handbag no matter what the size. I recently bought this Fiorelli tote from TK Maxx, where Fiorelli bags are very popular. This is my first Fiorelli bag, and so far I can't stop carrying it. The faux leather is very high quality which gives the bag really good structure and makes it easier to carry and keep organised. The splash of blue, which is in the same place on both sides adds colour to my winter wardrobe which seems to consist of a lot of greys and blacks. This is definitely my favourite purchase of the month!

Skirt Loving

19 November 2014

Dresses are one of my favourite clothing pieces to wear. Not only are they very easy to style, but they're comfortable for me to wear and I don't have to worry about the length too often, which is a completely different story for trousers. On the other hand, I have never been fond of skirts. Dresses and skirts are often clumped together in one category, but I always prefer to wear dresses and find skirts occasionally uncomfortable; and when I was younger, I found it difficult to find items to pair with a skirt. Today, I have grown to love skirts almost as much as I like to wear dresses. My skirt today is a recent favourite, it's of course made of jersey, a dress fabric I adore. The pattern on the skirt is very basic, but from afar looks complex which makes the outfit appear more exciting. I managed to stick with my comfort colour, blue, and find a coat to match. Which I'm wearing over a basic navy tank top that's elasticated so it's comfortable under my skirt. I never used to even consider wearing skirts, but today I'm loving it.
PS: You may have noticed my blog has a new name and domain, I think Anika May has a nice ring to it, what do you think?

As Simple as It Seems

18 November 2014

My outfit of the day is very simple, but it's still one of my favourites. This look has become a go-to outfit as it's casual and laid back, but still looks as if I did put some effort in. My jumper, which is a one-of-a-kind find from TK Maxx has wool in to keep me warm, but is luckily thin enough to use in a layering outfit. So if the temperature does drop, I know I can throw on an oversized coat or even a jacket without feeling too restricted. Similarly, my jeans are from Topshop, who sells some of the softest jeans I have ever tried. They're still made of a good quality of denim, but stretchy and pair well with plenty of items while being durable. Durable denim is essential for me as it's not often I can find jeans that are long enough for me - when I find the right pair, I need them to last a while and not wear away. Both my boots or 'booties' and bag are from Next. The leather and suede of both items is faux but still very authentic looking. Out of the whole ensemble, I feel like these two items add the touch of elegance to the look which makes it appear more mature. The oversized bag is a great accessory this season and although my nude boots will only pair with a selected handful of colours, they tie an outfit together.

I WAS BORN THIS WAY

i was born this way
Sometimes I don't even think I realise I create these sets with an overall palette of black. It's a colour I will always love, and I think sometimes is overrated. Although the colours are suited to this year, the wishlist items do have a summery theme. The first item I 'need' is the tank top from Cheap Monday. I styled the sleeveless top as a dress (paired with the Cross Strap Leather Gladiator Sandal by Bertie), because I think it looks quite cosy in this way, almost like a longer tunic. The super soft 100% cotton shirt follows the jersey-like style which I really took a liking to during the summer. Since creating this wishlist I have actually bought the 5-pack eyeshadows from H&M and absolutely adore all the shades. The colours are essential for a smoky eye this season, and the pack is only £3.99 in UK stores! The shades are soft, silky and long-lasting, I would recommend them to anyone who isn't a high level beauty guru buy loves to experience with gradient shades. Cara Delevingne is one of my favourite models, so it was destiny for me to find the Mulberry Mini Cara Delevingne bag. The leather rucksack has "Made in England" stamped at the bottom and is the perfect size for a relaxed day out of the house. Not forgetting the colour, material and texture will match about anything in a wardrobe including the crucial LBD.

Cotton Crush

I can't lie, I'm a sucker for discount prices. Seeing sale signs make me smile almost as much as free food. I didn't grow up in an extremely privileged family, so I've learnt many tips and tricks over my 18 years. With a mother as a fashion designer, I've also learnt to appreciate good material when I find it. My dress is made of cotton lawn, which is an incredibly find cloth that feels very silky on the skin. Although this dress is ideal for the summer as it keep you cool, I also love to wear it during this time of year to brighten up my closet. The fabric is untextured, and reasonably thin, so the aztec-like pattern adds a little excitement to the overall look rather than just a blend of colour. The winter season is setting in, so it's only natural that I begin to gravitate towards boots, and grey boots at that. These faux leather boots are amazing as they're loose-fitting toward the top, meaning I can wear thick socks inside without them being seen. For my outfit of the day, I purposely chose all-grey items, including my cardigan as I wanted the dress to remain the centre of my outfit as it's bursting with colour.
