Cotton Crush

I can't lie, I'm a sucker for discount prices. Seeing sale signs make me smile almost as much as free food. I didn't grow up in an extremely privileged family, so I've learnt many tips and tricks over my 18 years. With a mother as a fashion designer, I've also learnt to appreciate good material when I find it. My dress is made of cotton lawn, which is an incredibly find cloth that feels very silky on the skin. Although this dress is ideal for the summer as it keep you cool, I also love to wear it during this time of year to brighten up my closet. The fabric is untextured, and reasonably thin, so the aztec-like pattern adds a little excitement to the overall look rather than just a blend of colour. The winter season is setting in, so it's only natural that I begin to gravitate towards boots, and grey boots at that. These faux leather boots are amazing as they're loose-fitting toward the top, meaning I can wear thick socks inside without them being seen. For my outfit of the day, I purposely chose all-grey items, including my cardigan as I wanted the dress to remain the centre of my outfit as it's bursting with colour.

Darling Dogtooth

Winter is my favourite time of year, mainly because I own more coats that I do shorts. Dogstooth, which is also know as houndstooth; or in this case puppytooth as the pattern is small scale, is one of my favourite patterns to play around with. The broken check print comes in a wide variety of colours and combinations and is suitable all year round. This coat, which is made of wool and cotton is ideal for this time of year it's warm and cosy, but can also be worn for multiple occasions. Dogstooth in general is often worn for more formal events and is extremely common in workwear. However, the duotone pattern is appearing in high street stores in the form of trousers, coats and even hats. The print is becoming more casual and I chose this fabric from a local textiles store, hope to have this oversized winter coat made for me. The larger sizes makes the coat much easier to layer underneath and the darker pattern; which is most often found in monochrome, pairs well with multiple colours including the navy denim.

A Spot of Blue

The dress I'm wearing today is by far one of my very favourites. If you've been following my blog for a while, you will know my wardrobe consists of a lot of skater or fit-n-flare dresses. They're what I feel most comfortable with as they suit my hourglass body shape well and create a really feminine silhouette. However, the jumper-dress style is really growing on me as I begin to experiment more with my style choices. I think the dress is still flattering without making me feel uncomfortable and had to be made in my comfort colour - blue. As it's getting a lot colder, and a lot dark very quickly, I like to dress to keep warm. This is mainly because I'm one of those incredibly irritating Northerners that always complains about being cold. I know that I have to dress to stay warm or I'll be shivering and miserable all evening. Today I'll be in the city centre later in the day and it gets really windy and cold making my bright blue dress ideal as it's made of knitted cotton-jersey. It also contains a little bit of wool. I'm allergic to wool, so I can't wear 100% wool garments, but this blend of fabrics means I will stay warm, and cosy all evening. My grey coat, which is mostly wool can be worn as it's not touching my skin and won't irritate it. As the focus point of my outfit is my dress, I kept the accessories dark so they would compliment the look nicely.

Monochrome Magic

10 November 2014

I like to mix different 'genres' of clothing. Today, I'm wearing this reasonably formal dress from M&S, surrounded by items that are from the more casual end of the spectrum. It adds quite a bit of character to a look as you blend two types of styles together. I've also grown to love the monochrome look. It's a trend that never seems to date and can never really be over-worn. There are so many different ways to experiment with black and white as they are contrasting colours. I love the really simple pattern on the bottom half of my dress, which is complimented by the cute white collar at the top. The pattern brings the outfit to life and means I don't need to bring in as many accessories as all the focus heads straight to the dress. Leather jackets are my weakness, I will always find a way to wear one. When putting this mix-match outfit together, I chose a leather jacket as I think it suits the dress well and contrasts without clashing. On top of my suede shoes, the outfit has many different textures as the dress is jersey, my collar is chiffon and my bag and jacket are leather. There's plenty going on yet only two colours.

boys are nicer when they aren't with their friends
As hard as a try, I just can't stop my head for automatically picking black clothing and accessories. I just love dark clothing! This wishlist contains quite a few dark items inlcuding the Apiece Apart Michel Tee that I really 'need'. The shirt is described as a "slightly cropped, boxy top in a mid-weight Spanish weave" which sounds ideal for this season. Although cropped tops are not as popular at this time of year, there's no reason why shorter shirts can't still be worn with some high waisted jeans or a skirt. Shorter tops are also great for wearing over dresses, because they don't consume the shape of the dress but still add a layer. To go with this top I chose the D&G Slimmy Black Jeans that I found on Polyvore. I don't think you can go wrong with black jeans as black pairs with every colour there is. I've also found that darker denim is really easy to style and dress up or down. You can get away with wearing them to quite a formal occasion. The same can be said for the Coltrane shoes by Jeffrey Campbell and the Zippered Faux Leather Backpack from Forever 21. Unfortunately both these items are sold out but I couldn't help but add them to this week's wishlist. I tend to favour darker accessories as I find that accessories are the one items that can stop an outfit from working. By choosing colours rhat will work with multiple outfits, it's money-saving and efficient. To check out the rest of my wishlist, just click the set!
