The Wild Brunch

15 October 2014

Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK
For the first time today, I'm going from brunch. Being completely honest, I have absolutely no idea what kind of food you would eat at brunch but I know food will definitely be there so I'm eager to attend. I'm from West Yorkshire, and we're a broad breed of people who eat whatever whenever so I'm actually quite excited. There's something about eating out that makes food taste so much better. The huge shopping mall in Leeds named Trinity Leeds has an entire section inside called Trinity Kitchen which is almost as magical as Red Hot Buffet. There's just so much food! Over the years I have really become a food enthusiast and I don't really know how. And now that I'm technically an adult with a wage, I know the value of a British Pound and treasure good food when I can. I would class brunch as quite a casual event, I don't think there's any need to dress up too much and I also know that I'll be going to a restaurant that's incredibly relaxed in the city centre. Skater shoes have become a wardrobe favourite for me because I can pair them with anything and they instantly look relaxed. As my dress and attire is very colloquial, I added these all-black shoes for a touch of formality yet laid-back feel - plus, I really like wearing them with dresses or skirts. Choosing all-black accessories was intentional as I wanted most of the focus of today's look to be on my dress. It's one of my favourites because the stretchy jersey fabric is incredibly cosy and it has splashes of velvet colour, my favourite fabric. I've found this dress to be the ultimate go-to for an easygoing ensemble.

Girly Biker

Today's outfit is very daring. It may not seem so at a first look, but it's very cold and windy outside so it's pretty daring for me. Fortunately, the wind isn't too strong so I don't have to worry about any Monroe moments but despite today's outfit being coat-less I'm still warm enough. The magic is all in the undergarments. My top is rather cosy, as it's made of a knitted fabric that contains tiny traces of wool which keeps me warm, but underneath, I'm wearing a basic black vest top, made of a thermal fabric so I don't feel the chills. Little outfit pieces like this are essential for me this season because I'm always complaining about being cold. They're excellent for layering, and a lot of the time, you can buy the fabric and make up a tank top yourself rather then buying an overpriced product. I'm a dress and skirt person, and I love to wear them no matter what time of year it is so heat-holding clothing is my calling. As today's look is quite girly, I'm wearing my favourite faux leather combat boots with a zipper and lace fastening. I've found that these boots pair well with everything because of their colour, which I'm calling off-black and the fastenings can be altered to create different styles. For example, if I pull the laces a lot tighter like today, they resemble calf boots which is the look I was going for. To finish my outfit, I'm carrying my 'everyday' handbag from Next.

Woolly Owls

Mother Nature's in a terrible mood today. Good thing I love beanies. One of the things I look forward to most about the colder seasons is being able to wear coats and beanie hats. I'm not really a hat person, not a lot of styles suit me because they usually make my head look a lot bigger - but I like to wear beanie hats because they keep my head warm and they don't make my head look any bigger than it is. Today's look makes me feel really happy because I think I'm finally embracing autumn. The season's in full swing and the leaves are changing so quickly I can barely keep track. During August, I was struggling with the fact that summer is almost over, so I wouldn't be able to wear my favourite floral dresses without tights because it's way too cold. Nevertheless, my collection of jeans will soon rise to the top of my closet, my favourite leather jacket will become an essential and hi-tops are a must have. Along with my woolly owl beanie hat (that's so incredibly cosy), I have a large collection of scarves, especially knitted ones. I love to feel snug and warm especially when the weather is a little mistral and miserable. My snood scarf is great for windier days because I can wear it as a hood as well around my neck to keep me warm, exceptionally versatile.

Fancy Flannels

9 October 2014

This season, I've really grown to like check or 'flannel' shirts. On Tuesday I wore a monochrome shirt that has become one of my very favourites this season. I've also found that the red, navy and white shirts are really easy to style. Today's shirt actually includes some wool, which means I don't have to heavily layer over the top because it's already very insulating to wear in the brisk breeze. However, if this shirt wasn't so warm, the first jacket that comes to mind is a leather one. Check shirts are an incredibly sophisticated item and I think there would be a style clash if I were to pair this with an long, collared wool coat or duffle. As I want most of the attention to be on my top half, I paired my check button-up with dark jeans and accessories. My berry beanie is also a new autumn favourite, and charcoal jeans have been at the top of my life since the beginning of time. Carrying a simple slouch leather shoulder bag adds some texture to the overall look but also brings out the white highlights in my shoes and shirt. These super soft Nike sneakers are great throughout the year because of their versatile colour and texture. Leather can't be assigned to one season, which is what drew me to the trainers. The colour pairs well with the navy in my shirt and ties the whole look together.

hotter than you

hotter than you
If you follow, or have seen my Polyvore page, you may notice that a lot more of my sets are getting darker and darker or carry specific colour themes within them. I think this is due to my style developing more as I get older and mature, but I also really believe I address according to the weather or season or my mood. For example, if it's very poor weather, like today, I'm more likely to wear black and grey without even realising. Yes, I subconsciously dress to the colour of the clouds!
The first item that's at the very top of my wishlist is an ASOS Clutch Bag that was the inspiration for the title of today's post. Unfortunately, at this moment it's sold out, but it was on sale for under £20.00 and I absolutely love it. The monochrome clutch is leather with a smooth matte finish and ideal for an evening out. This clutch just oozes confidence and sass which is a must have in any night look. The R13 Striped Muscle Dress is a perfect autumn dress because it's loose and versatile. Like a leather jacket, a simple straight dress is a closet essential, despite the colour or pattern. I prefer to wear darker colours in dresses of this style because they make me feel much more comfortable. As the weather is a little chillier, I paired this sleeveless jersey dress with a H&M Cardigan that has incredibly subtle stripes in to match the effect on the dress. The fine-knit cardigan also comes in a petrol green colour which is an excellent autumn colour. It would also contrast well with the purple and lilac items in this set.
A beauty item that's accidentally always on my wishlist is the Nars Single Eyeshadow Compact I see everywhere. This particular compact is available in so many different colours making it an all-year-round essential as each colour can be worn for each season and occasion. I chose the D. Gorgeous colour to match the accessories included in this wishlist, but at Beauty.com (where they're available for around £15.00), the full range includes plenty of earthy tones and darker shades which are great for this season. The shadows can be used with each other to be layered on the eyelid, and they can even be used for eyebrows! As a UK resident, I'm often very cold. It's only natural, which ignites my [un]healthy obsession with candles. My very first thought on arriving home is lighting candles in my room because they create an excellent ambiance and provide extra light for the darker nights. I found the Lafco Music Room Candle on Polyvore and immediately desired it. Smelling candles is a very risky job, not everyone has the same favourite scent, I personally detest the smell of pure lemon, but I don't mind it if it's mixed in a citrus blend with lime and orange. "Black tea and citrus are highlighted with a touch of juniper and just a hint of french lavender for a warn, aromatic blend" is the description provided for the cute candle with 90 hours of burning time - a key feature.
