Loving Leather

I think an item made of leather is a must have in any closet. Whether it's just a simple skirt of a pair of super shiny trousers. I personally love leather jackets because I think they're so easy to style and can be paired with a lot of different items. I've found that leather jackets are the one item of clothing you can own for years and still style it to perfect, just like a promising pair of jeans. Leather as a fabric can be difficult to buy, usually the higher the quality, the higher the price. I don't own a lot of custom-made leather items simply because it can be cheaper to buy them in the long run, but there's so many leather items on the market at the moment in plenty of different colours so there isn't much room to complain. I actually remember when leather jackets because a huge trends while I was about 14 in 2008, Topshop had just released a line of leather jackets, and most of them had hoods on *cringe* which I was desperate to have. Of course now, I'm happy I didn't buy one because leather jackets look a lot better and are more versatile without a hood. Today's look is über casual as I'm only going shopping during my day off. One of my favourite things about good quality leather is that it's thick and naturally insulating so I can wear one of my favourite patterned tees underneath which is quite thin and loose on me, without getting really cold in the autumn breeze. I'm carrying my favourite leather bag from Topshop that's a really strong leather, making the bag well structured and less floppy. Finally, my leather hi-tops were bought a few years ago and are still a favourite of mine for the winter because they are so warm and well-lined as well as extremely comfortable to walk in.

Fabulous Fabrics

Growing up around fashion and designing has really helped me when it comes to shopping. Especially when shopping for clothing that's actually going to last, rather than poor fabric that almost disintegrates in water. I have my favourite high street stores, and sometimes you find one off pieces that are just perfection, but I've really learnt that the fabric makes an outfit, not the look. I absolutely adore the fabric used in this top from Next. Not only is it thick, making it an excellent new addition to my autumn wardrobe, it's also really strong and comfortable for me to wear. I like the rolled up sleeves and the laid back style to the top, but I was first drawn to the unique knitted fabric that causes this top to stand out. I love that it has white highlights, I think it really brightens to top rather than using black which would make the overall colour and tone appear much darker. The 3/4 length shirt is really easy to style because it brings out one of my favourite colours for autumn and is somehow simple and complex at the same time. For a super casual look, I can pair it with darker jeans and turn the top into the staple piece, or even use it for an outfit full of layers and place it at the bottom as the base piece. The static-like fabric drew me immediately and it's an awesome new item to add to my ever-growing collection!

Leather jackets are one of my favourite clothing pieces because they can be worn in so many different ways. I favour leather as a material in general because it's thick, waterproof and durable. Black leather is preferred because black goes with everything, although it does have it's downside such as getting unbelievably hot when in sunlight. During 2009, when I was still in school, almost everyone had a leather jacket - they were a huge trend. Since then, I have always really wanted a leather jacket. Depending on the style, they give you a bit of 'sass'. Especially with black leather jackets, the element of care-free attitude is immediately added to an overall look.

I think the leather jacket look is one I would like to develop a lot further, as I know there's such a wide variety of jackets out there, and they come in so many different colours. As we enter the thick of summer, I want to experiment with more colours - going out of my comfort zone. Similarly, leather boots, like Chelsea boots are my go-to shoe-type due to their promising features, but over the summer, I would like to try something new. A really good way to sneak in a bit of colour in your wardrobe are graphic t-shirts which were a large S/S trend. Proenza Schouler, Edun, Diane von Furstenberg and Ralph Lauren are just a few big names that featured a graphic print or pattern in their designs.

LEATHER PRINTS

It's  not long now until I no longer have to attend lessons and it's a time that couldn't come quick enough. No longer will I have to chose clothes according to rules or practicality. I may even have a pyjama day once a week as a reminder that I can wear any clothes during the day. But it's still Thursday and I have school so today I'm wearing this silk dress from TK Maxx that I originally bought for my holiday last year, but loved so much I thought it deserved an outing into the world. I really like the mix of colour in this dress, as it's like tie-dye or watercolours which I think is a great way to add colour to your wardrobe. The elasticated waist highlights more of a feminine figure to the dress rather than just a straight or t-shirt dress. My leather jacket is from Miss Selfridge which has become my go-to jacket for strange weather days because it's waterproof in case it decided to rain, but cool enough to wear in the sun and light enough to carry. My bag is from TK Maxx which I have been using as a school bag because it's just so big and there are about six compartments inside which defines me dream bag. Converse have also become my go-to shoe for school or a long day in general because they're just so comfortable for my feet. I have flat feet, which means there isn't that natural arch in the bottom of my feet, also means my feet can start to hurt after a while but this doesn't occur with Converse or high heels. I also adore Converse because most of their styles are unisex so I can wear men's or women's shoes in my size - a rare occurrence for most brands.

MERRY MONDAYS

Mondays aren't really the worst day of the week for me. I have the morning off, which means the temptation to stay in bed and watch Jeremy Kyle is incredibly strong, but I have time to blog, and prepare for my lessons which start in the afternoon. Today I'm wearing this really chunky jumper from Topshop that I bought in their spring sale. The weather is really strange today, but it looks like it will eventually be quite cold so I'm wearing this to cosy up in during my lesson, and be warm enough to walk home in. Over that, my leather jacket is from Miss Selfridge which I've had for a while and is easily one of my favourite clothing items. I love leather as a fabric, but leather jackets are incredibly versatile, not to mention waterproof so perfect for a day like today.
My jeans are from Topshop, which I only recently bought, and have become my third pair of charcoal jeans. I just really like charcoal jeans, and the more the better. The colour has really grown on me, and these jeans are MOTO which means they're super soft and sensible for school. Both my shoes and bag are from Next; my bag is one of my favourite because it's oversized and I can through everything in it. I have used it as a carry-on, a school bag, and overnight bag and everything else. The bag also has zips down the side so it does expand to make the bag even bigger. My shoes were bought recently and I love the little heel, and that they're so comfortable I can even wear them to school. They're also really easy to walk in which I always look for in a high heel.
