Stuck in Summer

16 October 2016

High Eldwick, UK
The greatest thing about living in Yorkshire is that every time I go for a walk, the scenery looks different. I could pass the same street, and something about it will be different. Usually, it’s the leaves that are changing (my favourite part of the year) or new flowers in bloom. This week, I took a stroll down one of the country lanes that runs behind me house, and the entire pathway was green! It was like being back in summer! I couldn’t believe how bright and alive the trees and bushes looked, even though the street running parallel had trees that were almost bare – it's like this one area is stuck in summer
Warm weather days like today are so easy to dress for. When it comes to fashion in the autumn, I tend to wear a lot of khaki green and black, and plenty of leggings. I can wear leggings for any occasion I absolutely love them. I’ve found that some people absolutely loathe leggings, where others may wear them as pants with a crop top. I’m somewhere in between. I often chose comfort when it comes to leaving the house over style, because if I’m not comfortable I’m not confident. This knitted khaki top from New Look is unbelievably comfortable – I’m so lucky to have found it. It was one of those pieces hanging all alone on a rail, and I decided to bring it home with me. Similarly, I bought this denim jacket from F&F at Tesco last summer and have loved it ever since. It was the last one available at the time and I thought I’d give Tesco a chance. This jacket is way thicker than I expected, and actually quite warm; I barely wore it during the summer because it was too heavy! This makes the coat ideal for autumn days that are not quite hot and not quite cold.

Converse and rucksacks have been my go to regarding my style recently, and if you follow me on Snapchat (where I document anything and everything), you’ll know that I’ve been wearing Converse non-stop for the past fortnight. They’re a shoe I’ve always known but taken for granted recently, until I started wearing them again. I think the classic Chucks go perfectly with jet black leggings and help complete this simple look.

Girls' Night Out

11 October 2016

Leeds, UK
I love a good night out. Living so close to a city like Leeds means the best bars are only a train ride away and I can spend all night sipping cocktails that taste like bacon at Angelica Leeds, or stuffing my face until 4am at Revolution on Call Lane. It’s safe to say, being on a night out with friends is a lot of fun, but there’s something about girl bonding that’s just the very best. Getting dressed up together, while listening to the cheesiest music (obviously) and falling into hysterics over nothing. A night out just for the girls is perfect, and I always want to look my best.
When it comes to a night out, I like to keep it classically casual. One thing I always think is: “would I wear a leather jacket with this?” If the answer is yes, the dress is a go. This awesome cold shoulder dress from Boutique of Molly is an easy fave because the colour and design is perfectly stylish but not over the top. Everyone wants to stand out a little bit, but I’m not good with too much attention on me so looking cute is about as far as I’ll go (or try). I’ve been loving the cold shoulder style all summer, and it was an enormous trend from the beginning of April. So far, I’ve only worn this look in tops, but I’m certainly on board with a straight dress design. Sadly, this dress went out of stock a few days after I bought it – I know… devastating.

Amazingly, I already owned shoes that faultlessly matched the tone of the dress (Next coming through for me once again)! I actually own these wrap wedges in two colours, because I love them so much. The best feature is definitely the comfort, I almost feel like I’m wearing flats when I have them one because they’re so cushioned and the suede is incredibly soft – the perfect night out shoe. I’m 100% not one of those girls who’s being carried into a taxi with one shoe on her hand and one half way down the street, so a pair that’s long-lasting and comfortable are totally my go-to.
PS: there are plenty of goodies over on Boutique of Molly's site, go ahead and use discount code' ANIKAM20' to receive 20% off your order!

Bolder, Brighter...and Bluer

27 September 2016

Eldwick, UK
Everyone has a colour they always fall back on. The one colour that is certain to suit your skin tone or gives you that extra boost of confidence. Everyone has a colour. My colour usually black, but when I’m trying to encourage myself to let a little colour into my life, my colour is 100% blue. I try to stay away from navy blue (because it’s a little too close to black), so bright blue is totally my comfort colour.

I picked up this dress from TK Maxx in their end-of-summer sale for only £4 and it’s a piece I’ve had to pluck up the courage to wear. Mainly because it’s a unique addition to my wardrobe, my style is usually pretty straightforward and never over-the-top. Although I wouldn’t go as far as saying this dress is over-the-top, it’s definitely a little different for me.

The first thing I love are the flared sleeves, I haven’t worn flared sleeves since I was about 8! They’re just so much fun to wear, I spun around about 30 times before we actually got these photos taken. Patterns aren’t usually my thing either, I’m a pretty basic person (no word of a lie) so I dress quite simple when it comes to an everyday look. It was actually the patter (ft. colour) that drew me to this dress which was sat in a jungle of sale items and out-of-season styles. Cold shoulder tops are a new love of mine, after wearing this yellow top during the summer, I grew more confident in wearing them!
Despite summer being over, I’m still totally loving this discount dress. The colour is certainly my new safe colour, and although it’s bright I feel comfortable rocking it! Black accessories are idea for a dress like this because I didn’t want anything to take away from the pattern or colours. A white bag and shoes would run the risk of clashing with the sleeves and I’d never want that!

Lace-Ups and Leather

14 September 2016

West Yorkshire, UK
I’m not big on cold weather, that’s probably the only down side to the summer ending. However, autumn means plenty more opportunities to wear my leather jacket, and I will always jump at the chance. I’m very passionate about leather jackets, as you will be able to tell over the next few months, and I can’t wait to dust off my collection and add to it.
I’ve always had a weird love for jackets, they’re so much fun to wear. It’s nice to be able to change the vibe of a whole look with one item, like a coat of jacket. Sometimes I can wear a leather jacket in a really casual setting, but also to something more formal. On the other hand, I can find blazer-style jacket or a collared khaki coat that is super stylish and little more chic. It all depends on my mood. For most days, a leather jacket will do for me, usually faux leather because it’s way cheaper and just as good.

I have recently become obsessed with these lace-up block heels from Next. Block heels are a big love of mine because they’re much easier to walk in that the barely-there sandal or even wedges. I never go for heels that are too high, in case I want to wear them in a casual setting like today. The first thing I was drawn to was the style, lace-up is on trend and easy to wear (I have a weird struggle with buckles). When the shoes arrived at my home, I realised they’re actually faux suede *heart eyes*, which always looks awesome against contrasting fabrics like denim. Because the colour is neutral, all the attention doesn’t have to be on the shoes and I can wear something with an eye-catching pattern, like this cotton tank top.

I managed to bag this top for £3 in the TK Maxx sale and have been bargain hunting in their stores ever since. It’s easily one of my favourites, simply because there’s so much stuff! I got a playsuit for £5 and another knitted jumper for £2! I was so excited about the new buys I tweeted around twenty times in five minutes, my followers were so confused. My top was a fun piece to add to the top over my favourite bright denim jeans and Topshop handbag.

Super Lazy Day | Wishlist

3 August 2016

Ilkley, West Yorkshire
goodnight
I always find shopping for nightwear to be so much fun. It could be two matching pieces, or random finds on the high street - I absolutely love to shop for brand new PJs and accessories to be worn for bed. I'm ridiculously lazy, no seriously, a day lounging around and doing nothing but watching hours of TV is a good day for me. Wearing comfy clothing is a total must for lazy days, and nightwear is the easiest of ways to ensure total comfort - it's foolproof!

The T by Alexander Wang tank top looks like it's the perfect tee for lounging around in. I don't tend to explore colour when it comes to a lazy day because I don't really have anyone to impress, nor do I need to stand out - so the simpler the better. This sleeveless piece is a linen blend, which means it's guaranteed coziness. Similarly, the Old Navy shorts look crazy comfortable! I've had them in my 'liked' list on Polyvore for as long as I can remember, and have always decided I will one day feature them in a wishlist. Although I have heard a few bloggers and vloggers discuss Old Navy and buy from there, I've never bought anything from the site myself. After having a brief browse, I think the store has the potential to be a new favourite! The clothes look to be a of really high quality, and are available for amazing prices. As much as I adore tracksuit bottoms and leggings, shorts are an ideal alternative because it means I can totally and completely surround myself with blankets upon blankets.

Anyone that follows my blog, knows that I am totally and completely obsessed with stationary. It's actually kind of scary. I once considered even signing up to a stationary subscription box, but sadly £40 a month was just a little too high for me. The Campus Gifts notebook is one item I would love to own. I think the font is really cool, and stands out well against the darker text. The phrase is unique and something I've never seen printed before; the large book would be amazing for jotting down blog post ideas or even write out posts on a snug day at home. I'm a huge fan of UGG boots, despite knowing a lot of people don't like them. Personally, I don't mind the style and love how warm they keep my feet. When I spotted the UGG Australia Knit Slippers, I knew they had to be featured on a cushy-themed wishlist. From wearing UGG boots for years on end, it must be made certain that these slippers must be crazy cosy. The colour suits this overall wishlist brilliantly, and although the price is high, I'm sure I could make an exception.
