Rustic Rucksack

18 June 2014

TK Maxx has become one of my favourite stores for finding one-off, one-of-a-kind pieces that are unique in their own way. I'm lucky enough to have a few stores very close to me, and each other has so much inside, I never know where to start. When shopping for bags, TK Maxx has always been my go-to store. Firstly, because it's highly unlikely anyone else will have the same bag, and secondly, there is a chance that you will find a designer handbag, or a bag that was previously very expensive but is available for a reasonable price which always makes it seem more appealing. TK Maxx always includes the recommended retail prices of their stock so you can compare the previous price and the current one. I bought my rucksack, or backpack, from TK Maxx and I adore it. As mentioned in yesterday's post, I love items with pockets and this bag has plenty. I also really like the washed-out denim look that the bag is, and the denim is very thick and tough which makes the bag durable and reliable. This style of backpack came into fashion during the summer of 2012, when music festivals were becoming much more mainstream and tiny holdalls were not common. I still really like this style of rucksack because it's so different from the standard bag with straps and I think is much more stylish and suitable for anything that isn't school-related. I've also found that my bag is actually quite versatile with outfits and occasions, but can also be used for everyday use which is the biggest bonus.

Shaking It Up

31 May 2014

Rain rain go away, come again another day! It's Saturday, the last day of May, a revision-free, shopping day. As my style changes, my shopping habits do to. I used to just buy whatever I liked, but now I sometimes just look for the inspiration, and try to see what I already have. Having a mother who is a fashion design also comes in handy, as she is able to make me a lot of clothes to fit, the way I like. This blue dress is one experiment I am currently trying out. I chose the fabric myself because I adore the colour blue, and I find it really easy to style with my skin colour. The simple colour brightens up the outfit as my jacket, boots and gigantic bag are all black and the style of the dress is more of a straight style, or even a t-shirt style which is different to my usual fit-and-flare approach. I think the skater dress look is one of my biggest habits because it is so easy to pair with other pieces and these dresses are available in most clothing stores at a reasonable price. However, I do want to shake it up a little bit, so this dress was made for me, and so far I love it. I do want to make the hemline at the bottom narrower, because I think it's quite wide, but I do treasure the new addition to my wardrobe.

SMART SKATER

26 May 2014

I have always been fond of blending trends, styles and colours - mixing them up to create a whole new look. If I'm ever asked to chose one set style or look for my entire wardrobe I'm always torn in two as I love the 'chic NYC girl' look, but I will still always be fond of a simple, casual style. It's Bank Holiday Monday in the UK which means a three-day weekend for most of us and luckily the sun has decided to say hello. Then again, I live in the North of England so it could be hail-stoning by the end of the day. Although the sun is out, the temperature is still quite low this morning so my bright blue coat is perfect for today - I would say it's one of my outfit obsessions because it becomes the statement piece of each outfit. When I first saw the coat, I was hesitant as it is very bright and stands out but sometimes that's what makes a great ensemble! I always think of this coat to have a more elegant tone to it, and I've paired it will casual pieces such as my skater dress and skater-like shoes. I really like these suede shoes, not only because they're suede, but they're touch and structures which actually makes them easier and comfortable to walk in. They're quite similar to the popular skater-shoe style designed for skateboarders and I absolutely love them, and they are great for the everyday casual style.

GOTHIC FLORALS

19 May 2014

Eldwick, Bingley, West Yorkshire BD16, UK
Every spring season, the floral trend graces runways and flower power inspired all. However this season, we still saw plenty of petals, but not as many pastels and pretty pinks as predicted. Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Erdem and Fendi all showcased deep, brooding tones with a hint of romance in their S/S lines.
My floral zip-up cardigan is from Next which I bought a few years ago but is perfect for this trend. It captures the vibrant essence of spring flowers, just in a darker style. I paired with this my dress which was made for me and I love because the hemline is not perfectly straight - it is a little longer on the sides which gives a nice shape to the dress. My tights are basic plain black tights from M&S and both my bag and shoes are from Next. My handbag is one I use as my 'everyday' handbag which I value in my wardrobe as it's black leather and a lot bigger on the inside without getting too heavy. Black leather is one of my favourite fabrics because it can be paired with anything or style to any look. In either a jacket, dress or bag form; I adore black leather. I added these lighter toned shoes to the outfit to brighten up the bottom half and add a touch of sophistication and formality to my outfit of the day. They have an element of the Chelsea boot style with cutouts which makes them perfect for spring.

TOTALLY TRANQUIL TUESDAY

13 May 2014

I'll be spending the entire day working from home as I have only one lesson and my teacher isn't available. I would say one of the perks of being in sixth form are the free periods and cancelled lessons. It's like the weight of textbooks lifted off your shoulders. So as I won't be going anywhere today, I'm wearing this huge floaty shirt from Primark. I bought this shirt two sizes bigger because I know Primark sizes can bit a little smaller than other shops, but I wanted the shirt to be quite floaty and oversized because I love the pattern. It has a mirror effect all over with swans and flowers everywhere. I think it's a great top for spring because of the traces of pastel colours which were a major trend in spring, and the hints of floral - another huge trend on the spring catwalks.
I'm also wearing plain black leggings that my mum made, that have a disco-like effect in them. These leggings are made out of a stretchier fabric that plain jersey leggings which makes them super soft and comfortable, great for a lazy day in. Finally, my shoes are from Sports Direct, and the brand is Nike. I don't wear shoes inside, but if I were to nip out, I would wear these shoes because they brighten up the bottom of my outfit, as my leggings are dark, and the colour tones well with my shirt.
