Heavy As a Feather

No weight, no worry. Today's look is super casual for me as I'm having a shopping-only day after a work-filled one yesterday. And as I'll be travelling quite a lot, I want to stay warm; I really need the perfect coat to wear that isn't too much of a burden. There are some coats that are just a bit of a faff to wear and too much to deal with. The last thing I want is to be reaching up to grab a book from the top shelf in Waterstones and my coat lifts up, bringing my top with it - that' a no-no. I also don't want a jacket that's too long, if I do ever take it off, there's that small chance that it could trail on the floor if I don't carry it properly which is the exact opposite of what I want while shopping in Bradford city centre. A lot of jackets and coats I wear are also really heavy which is fine for a short day out, but I'll be window shopping all day so I don't want to be uncomfortable. A bad coat can dampen the whole day. Today's coat is very different. I still cannot believe how light it is for a well-insulated cover-up. It's incredibly thick, but not overbearing to wear; I also like the contrast in the faux fur collar colour and the colour of the outside of the jacket. With this almost black/white effect, I can wear it with simple colours and still stop my overall look from being too dull. But to add a splash of colour to my look, I'm wear my favourite knitted top from Next to keep me extra cosy. The amazing soft collar on my coat means there's no need for me to wear a scarf, so it's extremely practical for a shopping day.

Woolly Owls

Mother Nature's in a terrible mood today. Good thing I love beanies. One of the things I look forward to most about the colder seasons is being able to wear coats and beanie hats. I'm not really a hat person, not a lot of styles suit me because they usually make my head look a lot bigger - but I like to wear beanie hats because they keep my head warm and they don't make my head look any bigger than it is. Today's look makes me feel really happy because I think I'm finally embracing autumn. The season's in full swing and the leaves are changing so quickly I can barely keep track. During August, I was struggling with the fact that summer is almost over, so I wouldn't be able to wear my favourite floral dresses without tights because it's way too cold. Nevertheless, my collection of jeans will soon rise to the top of my closet, my favourite leather jacket will become an essential and hi-tops are a must have. Along with my woolly owl beanie hat (that's so incredibly cosy), I have a large collection of scarves, especially knitted ones. I love to feel snug and warm especially when the weather is a little mistral and miserable. My snood scarf is great for windier days because I can wear it as a hood as well around my neck to keep me warm, exceptionally versatile.

Gaiety Greyscale

7 October 2014

Anything grey is usually seen as dull and gloomy, but I think the exact opposite. Take Armani's A/W 14 collection for example. Even though the selection did include the occasional splash of green, grey was a significant colour. The designer does have a history of elegant simplicity. "Grey is a transversal, adaptable and even a sensual colour that conveys a natural elegance" says Armani in October's issue of Harper's Bazaar. He also said "I find that it's countless shades correspond to the many facets of femininity" Baring that in mind, I think darker colours are often underrated. I spotted today's shirt while shopping online and it reminded me of an average flannel or check shirt, that had been edited with a 'greyscale' filter which is what immediately drew me towards it. Most shirts of this style have a very bright colour or feature multiple colours for the ultimate S/S shirt. Yet I think this shirt, which does feature some subtle shades of grey alongside black and white, is the total opposite. It's the ultimate A/W shirt.

Happy Hiking

I always see living in Yorkshire as a bad thing. Simply because I like busy cities and lots of people, places like London, New York City and even Los Angeles seem like magical cities and the best place to be; but sometimes there's nothing I love more than being able to look out the window and seeing the Yorkshire Dales, watching a sheepdog control an unbelievably large flock of sheep or just being mesmerised at the phenomenal landscapes the county has to offer. I like in a historic village area of West Yorkshire, so everything is very simple, there's not overbearing traffic and major events (apart from Bingley Music Live) and people smile at each other in the street. One of my favourite things to do on my days off is go for long walks or hikes up the moors right to the very top. The great thing about walking all the way to the top is that I can see Leeds Bradford Airport, as well as Lister Mill and plenty of other historical landmarks around Leeds and Bradford. On a clear day, there's nothing greater than seeing all the jumbo jets set off in different directions, flying to every corner of the Earth. Although it's a tiny bit colder than a few months ago, I still enjoy occasionally hiking to the very top of the moors - it's a great place to relax or read, and it's rare there's a lot of people up there during the day. An essential for me when taking these 3 mile walks are my favourite chunky boots. I bought these from Brantano for around £20 and I have to admit, I think they're a better quality boot than Timberland. I know high brands are usually quite pricey, but I've found that sometimes the cheaper items is better despite all the stigma attached to big brands. My teeny tiny shoulder bag/purse is perfect for today as it fits my phone and some spare change in which are the only things I take with me. I'm wearing some thick charcoal jeans because there are some sections of the footpath where I need to climb so I need to be able to move, but it's a little colder as autmun is in full swing so I think jeans are the best way to go. Finally, I bought my jacket and t-shirt during the summer season but I can't get enough. My t-shirt is made of a rally high quality, thick cotton, so it's so cosy and warm even though it's just a short sleeved tee. Over the top, my jacket is very light but still well insulated so it's ideal as I usually get really warm when I'm walking uphill. Unfortunately today is only a quick walk as I have job interviews today but it's a great wake up!

Overworn Overwear

25 September 2014

One of my biggest fashion habits is wearing one item of clothing too many times. Today's coat is a perfect example. I wore it only a few days ago, but luckily I'm not a celebrity so that doesn't matter. What initially drew me to this piece was the bright colour, but I quickly learned that this coat is incredibly versatile. At first, I thought I could only pair this coat with clothing that features a similar colour, like today's top - but I've found that my jacket can be worn with many different colours and clothing. If I want to really stand out, and I pair the coat with another bright colour, including orange which is the contrasting colour to blue and really brighten up a look. However, I can also wear this coat as a statement piece, as the colour is very bright so wearing much darker colours underneath will illuminate the whole look. I love that the coat is very light, but also contains wool so it's perfect for this time of year. As the temperature begins to drop and the clock will eventually go backwards, I'm going to begin to appreciate this jacket even more. Today is quite a casual day so I've chosen to dress down my whole look rather than go along with the elegance and sharpness of my coat. Today's shoes are very similar to skater shoes that are available from stores such as Vans and Schuh, they're super casual and give off an easygoing vibe.
