Check That Cape

23 November 2016

Eccleshill, UK
For me, the very best thing about this time of year is being able to layer clothing to my heart’s content. Not only can I wear turtle neck tops without sweating through them, but I can wear capes outdoors without ending up awkwardly carrying them. Life’s sweet!

Passion for Plum

I love this colour! Any chance to wear it I'm totally going to take advantage of and today is the day. I don't do a whole lot of workwear posts on Anika May because I no longer work in an office, and I have no desire to return. Yet, the one thing I do miss is the super chic office outfits! It's one of the reasons I was so drawn to Suits, the women always look so stylish!

Phone Cases Galore!

15 November 2016

Hurray for post number 350! I'm sure you’ve heard me blab on about CaseApp about 100 times. This time last year, I had just discovered the brand, and now I’m obsessed! I like to mix up my phone cases every so often, especially when it comes to a new season. The change gives me something different to look at, rather than the basic iPhone back (even though mine’s pink and I love pink), and motivates me in a weird but wonderful way. Custom designs by me help the cases feel a little more personal too, and I’ve managed to build up quite the collection over the years.

Another Night on the Town

1 November 2016

Heaton, UK
Happy November! Yaaaay! Another OOTD! Or rather, OOTN. As I’ve mentioned in like a hundred posts, I love to go out. When I first turned eighteen, I didn’t go near nightclubs, I always thought they were tacky and a little bit unsanitary. Although my opinion hasn’t changed, I still think going out is a fun experience. Now that I’m twenty, I still pop into Mission or Prism when I have the energy, but I also love going for casual drinks. Not all the clubs in Leeds sell fun cocktails, usually it’s just shots for 50p and a random fizzy drink ft. vodka. However, there are a few areas in Leeds that are amazing for dressing up and sitting in a classy establishment, having cocktails that are called Queen B and The Bazinga.

Back to School

19 October 2016

West Yorkshire, UK
Since leaving school, I haven’t really looked back. Not that I didn’t enjoy learning about different subjects and increasing my skills but just the idea of being back in the education system gives me nightmares. However, sometimes I put outfits together, and just wish I had these items of clothing while I was in school. Looking back at sixth form, my dress sense was not… the best. Let’s just say, I got to a point where I didn’t care much for my appearance (a stage every student goes through) and literally put on the first scraps of fabric I could find. One day, I actually wore a pyjama top to an exam.
Today’s outfit totally reminds me of the type of style I wanted to have in school, super simple and very comfortable. I’m actually not that big on double denim, but with the two contrasting colours, it works. Denim jackets were a staple summer piece for me and I think they’re still great for the first few weeks of autumn. Before it gets too chilly, I definitely think you can get away with the occasional summer item – even if it means being the biggest (Lizzie McGuire) outfit repeater.

I never had a rucksack in school. At one point I literally just carried my ring binders around and hoped for the best – getting on the bus was a nightmare. I recently bought this backpack from New Look through ASOS and absolutely love it. They’re so easy to work with! Similarly, these awesome Vans I picked up from TK Maxx (for only £6) are my new go-to shoe. I love the unique pattern and I think they brighten up the look without taking all the attention in the outfit.

For me, one of the most exciting things about autumn, or fall, is the colours I get to wear. I picked up this thinly knitted jumper from Matalan and the colour is a must for autumn. I’m back in my denim jacket from my most-recent OOTD because… well it’s an awesome jacket. I even wrapped the sleeves from my jumper around the jacket, for that extra touch of auburn; I really think the two fabrics work well together.

How I Stay Focused (and Extra Sparkly)

16 March 2016

Eldwick, Bingley, West Yorkshire
Staying focused as a blogger can be really difficult. I often find I'm trying to work hard but really can't focus (or stay extra sparkly) when I need to. Through spending time in different jobs, working from home and blogging full-time, I've figured out a few ways I can stay focused and complete a task in good time.

It's Still Wellie Season

12 March 2016

Eldwick, Bingley, West Yorkshire
So technically, it's spring. Honestly, there's been very little snow and I'm quite disappointed as 2015/2016 was expected to have one of the worst winters ever. Actually, there's only been two days of traffic-stopping snow in West Yorkshire, and the enormous floods did way more damage than the snow has. Either way, I'm still saying it's wellie season.

Six Ways to Make Your Lunch Break More Exciting

9 March 2016

Lunch could easily be described as the best part of a working day. There's no stress and there's food - what else do you need? However, a lunch break can be boring if there isn't much to do. I've read articles on making the most of the lunch time we have, or managing motivation levels to be most productive during lunch - but none of them really made much sense to me. There's a certain mental attitude that will make lunch better, but there are also physical tasks that can be done to create an entertaining environment. I see my lunch as a break away from my job, so the last thing I want to be doing is... my job. There are only so many to-do lists that can be written and windows to stare out of. For some, a lunch break can drag on for way too long; but I have several methods of making that magical hour a lot more exciting.

Let's Run

My Workout Essentials

my gym essentials, nike gym bag, nike flex run 2015 running shoes, mens gym clothes, womens sportswear, anika may essentials, work out and workout clothes essentials

I definitely don’t consider myself a health expert, but one thing I’ve recently fallen in love with is regular exercise. This is something I never thought I would say as I still occasionally consider myself to be one of the laziest people alive; but I do love a good run. Hitting the gym for an hour or so on a Friday night is a good evening to me. Getting up at 6am doesn’t seem so bad when you’re jogging against the sun rising over the moors. I’ve found a lot of positive aspects in exercise, and even more essentials.

What to Do When You Don't Get the Job (Part II)

17 February 2016

I recently had a job interview for a job I was desperate for, if you follow me on Twitter, you will more than likely have seen my full on meltdown after having an amazing interview but not hearing anything for a few days. It's really important for me to keep a positive mind-set because I'm notoriously negative and can usually find a bad thing in everything - eek.

Netflix Shows You Need to Binge Watch

11 February 2016

My Netflix list is embarrassing long, and never seems to get any shorter no matter how hard I try. Despite the ever-growing list, there are some shows that I can watch for hours on end and never get tired of. Netflix has become the perfect hangover cure, and during my many hours of binge watching shows, I've come across a fun list of favourites.

Things I Miss About School

8 February 2016

Food
While in school, I never valued the food that was available at my fingertips. School lunches were never gourmet meals in my eyes, but always a reasonable price and ready whenever I need them. Now that I work from Monday to Friday, and have realised I can no longer afford to have Starbucks every day, I really miss being able to pick up an affordable sandwich with the swipe of a card at school and finding somewhere safe and clean to eat it. Every day I have to make a conscious effort to make my lunch which I ironically never have time to do.

Friends
I do have friends at work, but we can't spend an hour gossiping about drama from trashy TV shows or discussing the latest office rumours. Work is for work, and although you should gave the same attitude at school, messing around with your friends is fun. Having friends at school means you can go through the troubling exams together and have a group of people you look forwards to seeing everyday.

Going home at 2:45
The 'home time' for each school varies, some are late and some, like mine are quite early. I remember my first day at work, and it got to around 3 o'clock and I was already happy to leave. Sadly, I still had another two hours to go before I could even think of leaving. Getting home while it's still light out is behind me now, but it's definitely something I miss.

Homework
This may sound like a bit of a strange one, but I really like doing homework. I used to enjoy getting stuck in a huge project and spending loads of my free time experimenting with different ways or creating something new. I wasn't a huge fan of 5,000 word-essays at the time, but reading through a 200lb textbook doesn't seem that bad any more.

Holidays
When it got to around Easter-time this year, I realised there's no time off unless I ask for time off and even then it's not that long. When I see my younger sister getting excited for the random two weeks she has off in the autumn or the extra long week during March, I can't help but wish I could experience holidays like this again. Secular work does have holiday time, but it's usually around 28 days rather than six weeks.

Uniforms
If there's one thing that's become extremely expensive since I started working, it's clothing. As a fashion fanatic, I naturally want to try out new looks and trends I see when I'm out and about. I'm surrounded by shopping centres and markets so it's very difficult to avoid, but when I was in school, what I wore was the least of my worries and the carefree mindset was the only one I had.

The Perfect Pressed Powder

sleek make up pressed powder anika may everyday make up routine photography blog review
When looking for the right powder, it can be really difficult to find one that's the right colour, will blend well with foundation and has a light but long-lasting texture. After many months of use, I think I've finally found the right one for me.

Blogger Breaks Are Neccessary

12 January 2016

There are a lot of bloggers who write whole blog posts on why they need a break. Explaining every reason why they need a pause from the social world or a few days or even weeks away from the big bright screen. Full-time bloggers depend on their blogs for income as well as a hobby, so when taking a break, they feel the need to totally and completely explain their motives.

Anika May: The Top 10 Posts of 2015

31 December 2015

I've been blogging for over a year now, but 2015 is the year I realised this is the job I want to do for the rest of my life. Anika May has had a broad range of posts, beginning as an OOTD blog and merging with my love of lifestyle posts. It's actually quite weird looking back and thinking: "Wait what? That was this year?!" Check out the 10 most popular posts from 01 January 2015 to today.

Things I Love to Geek out Over

I think in their own right, everyone has nerd moments about certain things. Whether it's all out fangirling or simply an inner squeal, it's always exciting.
