Pragmatic Prices

I am a huge believer in being honest and presenting yourself as you really are, rather than showcasing a false personality. I like the phrase "I'm not negative, I'm just realistic" because for me, it's more than true. Sometimes I just can't help but be honest, say things as they are and see the rational side to a situation. I'm not the type of blogger than has thousands to spend on hauls and styles that I can wear each and every day. I see nothing wrong with recycling what you've got and experimenting with what's there rather than becoming distressed by trying to reach the unrealistic goals that are sometimes set in society. I love high fashion, I adore expensive things and I believe I have aspects of my personality that are identical to Holly Golightly in my obsession with how 'the other half' live. But I also love a bargain (real Yorkshire talk), and I am the type of person that looks at price tags; unfortunately I don't have the privilege of being able to ignore how many zeros I see on a label.
That's the inspiration or motivation behind today's post and outfit. I've recently learnt that charity shops are like little treasure chests, along with stores like TK Maxx and even supermarkets. Yes, that particular way of shopping may not be as glorified as spending £60.00 on a t-shirt, but if you look good and feel good, I don't see it causing any harm. Some people may see shopping on a budget as a downfall or a disadvantage, but I see it as an open window into a whole other world of unique and one-off pieces to add to a slowly growing collection.
Mini-rant over. Today I'm wearing an oversized check shirt that is super cosy as it's made of cotton and I actually found in a sale. Most people like to wear check shirts around their waist, which is a trend I like, but when wearing them myself, I like to actually wear them as an open or closed shirt. They're also great in the summer as the oversized style keeps you cool all day without having to strip off. I chose to leave the top few buttons open which creates much more of a relaxed look, whereas when all the buttons are fasted, the shirt takes a straighter shape and looks a little more formal.

Smart Charcoal

7 July 2014

Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK
One of the reasons I love darker colours like charcoal is because it's so simple and easy to style. From day to night, or formal and casual. I know it's the middle of summer, and usually people like to wear brighter clothes and styles but I don't see anything wrong with wearing darker colours every so often. Today's quite a gloomy day so I guess you could say I'm dressing for the weather.
Recently, I've seen a lot of blazers being worn in general street style. I always thought of blazers as quite a formal piece of clothing, and always worn them to more sophisticated events. However, after seeing so many people pull them off so effortlessly I decided to wear of to finish of my entire look. A lot of blazers come in very bright colours, and I have found a few I like from Topshop and Urban Outfitters that are unique in size, shape and colour in contrast to my plain black one. Blazers have been a summer trend before, and I still think there's time for this look to become the late summer obsession.

California Leather

Leather jackets are one of my favourite clothing pieces because they can be worn in so many different ways. I favour leather as a material in general because it's thick, waterproof and durable. Black leather is preferred because black goes with everything, although it does have it's downside such as getting unbelievably hot when in sunlight. During 2009, when I was still in school, almost everyone had a leather jacket - they were a huge trend. Since then, I have always really wanted a leather jacket. Depending on the style, they give you a bit of 'sass'. Especially with black leather jackets, the element of care-free attitude is immediately added to an overall look.

I think the leather jacket look is one I would like to develop a lot further, as I know there's such a wide variety of jackets out there, and they come in so many different colours. As we enter the thick of summer, I want to experiment with more colours - going out of my comfort zone. Similarly, leather boots, like Chelsea boots are my go-to shoe-type due to their promising features, but over the summer, I would like to try something new. A really good way to sneak in a bit of colour in your wardrobe are graphic t-shirts which were a large S/S trend. Proenza Schouler, Edun, Diane von Furstenberg and Ralph Lauren are just a few big names that featured a graphic print or pattern in their designs.

Navy Lady

Like black, navy is a colour I wear a lot, and I feel, can never really be over-worn. Personally, I don't know if darker colours make you appear slimmer, but I think this is partially responsible for my love of the darker tones. I've also been told that vertical striped make you appear slimmer in contrast to horizontal stripes. I actually feel more comfortable in the horizontal pattern and I chose this jumper because I love the the patterns are thick and thin which differs the top from any other. These dark denim jeans are among my favourites because they feel quite 'body-shaping' and are tight yet comfortable. I prefer MOTO jeans from Topshop because they're always so soft and comfortable. Whenever I shop in store, I never know which pair to pick up first because they're all so soft and stretchy which makes them easier to wear for longer periods of time. I also like to shop at Next for their jeans because they have the longer length jeans that aren't too short for me; as well as jeggings, which are so similar to jeans you can't tell the difference. A lot of the time, I will go for high-waisted jeans because they compliment your figure and can be worn with shorter length of cropped tops. Navy has become my comfort colour, but I think there are so many ways to style this simple tone, it's versatile in almost every way.

Yorkshire Walking

28 June 2014

Ilkley, West Yorkshire, UK
One side of the Cow and Calf rocks, Ilkley.
Sometimes I have days, where I want to just wear the biggest, baggiest jumper I can find, the thickest, cosiest pyjama bottoms I can find and spends 6 hours straight on Netflix. To me, that's a good Saturday. But I have a lot of errands to run, including walking my neighbours dog that I have volunteered to take care of. The weather is super warm today, so a t-shirt like this that is thin and airy is perfect because I won't get to warm walking up hill. I love to walk, much more that I like to jog, and music always motivates me to actually keep moving because I end up strutting and occasionally posing and miming to the music in my ears. I'll be walking around Ilkley Moor, which is where the Cow and Calf rocks are in West Yorkshire. A lot of people chose the climb them, but I personally just like the view. It's a great place to walk because of the huge hill and amazing sights, it's my go-to dog walking spot as walking around the Cow and Calf works up a sweat, and is always super rewarding. I'm choosing to wear leggings over shorts today as the sun keeps peeping in and out which is changing the temperature a little. On high ground, there's also a bit of a breeze and my best option is to avoid getting cold. As I'm flat-footed, after a while, my feet start to hurt and my trainers are perfect for a long walk like today because they're heavily cushioned inside which keeps my toes cosy. I can't wait to get walking. Have a nice weekend!
